What’s New: A Look At Next Year’s Schedule

Mr. Yavenditti and other faculty members have decided to implement a new schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. For upper school students, the classes for each day will begin at 8:30 am rather than 8:00 am. Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays will still begin at 9:00 but there is also an additional period added to the schedule on these days before town meetings which are called Mini Courses.

Further, the school day for high school students will now end at 3:00 pm instead of 2:50 pm. The middle school students, however, will still begin classes at 8:00 am and at 9:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Middle school students will also have a flex period at the end of each day and even an early dismissal on Fridays.

Additionally, the new schedule will have a two week cycle Monday-Friday rather than days 1-8. Despite the later start times, the newly designed schedule will be more efficient, allowing for more teaching time by 4% for upper school students and 14% for middle school students.

Class periods will be 45 minutes long while double periods will be 85 minutes. Double periods will only occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the second period (9:20-10:45). In addition, meeting time will be slightly extended by 15 minutes to avoid rushing and disorganization, which sometimes occurs as a result of the current schedule. This change hopes to remedy the issue of meeting times running late, which cuts into class time.
